📰 The Local Lowdown

A major Tesco rebuild proposal lands on Vevay Road

Tesco Ireland has applied to replace its Vevay Road shopping centre with a larger, two-storey scheme. The plans show 8,698 sq m of floorspace, compared with about 5,332 sq m now, with a main shop, café, two service units and a hot-food takeaway. They also include 281 car spaces, 50 bike spaces, rooftop solar, a moved pedestrian crossing and traffic lights at the car-park entrance. The council received the application on 28 October. There’s no decision or construction timetable yet, but you can follow the planning brief here.

Conditional approval for 91 homes near Vevay Road

Wicklow County Council has conditionally approved 91 homes at Vevay Road, Church Road and Churchlands Road: 42 apartments, 28 duplexes and 21 houses, with public open space and a play area. The decision is open to appeal until 17 November 2026.

✨ Meet the Locals

Bray Arts has been part of the town’s creative life since 1996. It brings local artists and audiences together across music, writing, poetry, dance and visual art, and has been behind projects including Bray Summer Festival, Bloomsday in Bray and music workshops. Three decades on, it’s still making room for people to make things and share them.

A Story Worth Sharing

Tyapa caged in Dagestan

FREED: A five-year journey brings two bears to Donegal

After five years of setbacks, brown bears Bu and Tyapa have arrived at Wild Ireland in Donegal. They were being kept in unsuitable conditions in Dagestan, Russia. War, sanctions and flight disruption repeatedly delayed the rescue; more than 100 people eventually helped get them to Ireland. Both bears have gained weight, and their kidney function has returned to normal. They’re still adjusting to open spaces and water, though, and can retreat to smaller houses when they need to feel safe. It took a long time to get them here, but they’re finally somewhere safe.
