ISSUE #006 · THURSDAY 29 OCTOBER 2026
Morning, Bray. The weekend has a few good answers to “what will we do with ourselves?”: two Friday family shows, Saturday baking and football, and a Halloween party on the seafront. First, the harbour’s next step and a new shop on Castle Street. We’ve also kept three meal picks with clear prices and a calmer Halloween plan for dogs.
In Today’s Craic
🌦️ Weather — mostly cloudy, with some brighter spells.
⚓ The Local Lowdown — harbour plans, a new Castle Street shop and Halloween safety.
🍽️ Food & Drink — three meal picks, from €8.60.
🧰 Shop Local — need a desk for a day? Try Harbour Road.
🗓️ Today’s Bray Guide — tonight, and into the weekend.
🐾 Paws Around Town — a calmer Halloween for your dog.

🌦️ Bray’s Weather Today
Mostly cloudy, with some sunny spells and isolated light rain or drizzle. Met Éireann’s Thursday outlook gives highs of 13–14°C, with the best of the brighter weather likely in the east and north. Southerly winds will pick up, becoming stronger near the coast. A layer and a raincoat should earn their keep.

Bray Harbour plans move forward — but no construction go-ahead yet
Bray Harbour’s proposed revamp has been approved to move into detailed planning and design. Wicklow County Council is preparing to appoint engineers to draw up the plans, prepare environmental reports and put together a planning application.
Local councillors have called for residents to have a proper say as those plans develop—something worth following if you live nearby or regularly use the harbour.
This isn’t the go-ahead for building work: further approvals are needed before construction can begin.

Keep waste out of Halloween bonfires
Doing a clear-out before Halloween? Keep furniture, tyres, plastics and other waste secure rather than leaving it where it could be collected for a bonfire. Bray’s 2026 safety notice warns that burning these materials releases toxic fumes and can cause fires to spread.
If you spot an illegal bonfire being lit near buildings, trees or another dangerous location, call 999 or 112. Report illegal dumping or materials for bonfires to [email protected].
New on Castle Street: Choice has opened
Choice has opened at Castle Street Shopping Centre, giving Bray another place to pick up household supplies and homeware. The Irish retailer opened the branch on 8 October; it is its first shop in Wicklow.
If the launch passed you by, that’s where to find it. For current products and prices, use the store’s own website—handy when the shopping list is more household bits than a major expedition.

🐾 Paws Around Town
A quieter Halloween for your dog
Dogs Trust Ireland’s free Sound Blanket is a collection of nine sounds designed to help mask fireworks. Try it on a quiet day first to see how your dog responds; it may not suit dogs sensitive to music or spoken radio.
Dogs Trust’s practical advice is to get the evening walk and toilet break done before dark. Check doors, windows and fences, make sure the microchip details and ID tag are current, then close curtains and windows. Set up a comfortable quiet spot and stay nearby where possible. Let your dog choose whether to hide or come to you for calm company.
Familiar music or the TV can help soften outside noise. Do not force your dog out of a hiding place. If loud noises frighten them, speak to your vet; never give medication without veterinary advice.
Keep a securely closed door between your dog and the doorstep while you greet trick-or-treaters. Much easier than juggling a lead, a sweet bowl and excited children.
