ISSUE #003 · MONDAY 26 OCTOBER 2026
Morning, Bray. It is a wet bank-holiday Monday, but there is plenty worth your time indoors.
We begin with the neighbours who helped bring Hannah Leonard home, then have a few local finds to keep close and a week-ahead diary. There is even a new sporting option for the group chat that has been promising to do something together since June.
In Today’s Craic
🤝 How a nine-day volunteer build helped bring Hannah Leonard home
⚽ Sunday’s Ardmore Rovers scorecard, with the final scores
🍽️ Little Bray food, a specialist running service and a Wicklow start-up route
🗓️ A selective week-ahead diary, plus Shoreline’s newly opened padel courts

Rainy and mild
Met Éireann’s Leinster forecast for Monday brings spells of rain, heavy at times, with highs of 15–16°C and moderate to fresh southerly winds. Keep an indoor plan in the mix.

📰 The Local Lowdown
🤝 How Bray brought Hannah home
Hannah Leonard’s Bray home has been adapted through a nine-day DIY SOS build after the 24-year-old was injured in a road collision in Sicily in 2024. RTÉ reports that the work created an accessible bedroom and wet room, room for specialist equipment and more workable shared living space for the family.
East Coast FM reported that hundreds of volunteers took part. RTÉ names local contributors including Bray Emmets, Bray Sea Scouts, Hollybrook Park Neighbours, Bray Garda Station, Bray Recycling Centre and Wicklow County Council. The story is moving because the practical details matter: an accessible home makes everyday family life more possible. It is also a fine reminder of what local goodwill can build when people get behind a neighbour.
🏆 A quick round of applause for Bray’s Endeavour Awards
Bray’s 2026 Endeavour Awards marked 45 years of recognising the people and groups who make the town tick, alongside the Chamber’s 70th year.
Adam Burke was named Person of the Year for two decades of youth outreach and mental-health work, while Sycamore Construction took Business of the Year, Annie Verwijs received the Lifetime Achievement Award and Judy Coolahan the Civic Award. Edible Bray’s Community Award is a nod to more than a decade of free growing spaces, biodiversity work and sustainable action. A useful reminder that the town’s good work is often done without much fanfare.

⚽ Sunday scorecard: Ardmore Rovers
A compact Sunday scorecard from Ardmore Rovers:
12.7 Boys beat Clonee United 4–0;
14.9 Boys lost 0–1 to Broadford Rovers;
18.4 Boys won 6–4 against Terenure Rangers;
and U13 A4 Girls beat Rathcoole 1–0.
Four very different outcomes, which is grassroots football in a nutshell: a fine win, a tight one, a goal fest and a result to take into the week.

🍽️ Food & Drink Around Bray
Fredi’s Pita, Little Bray
For a change from the same familiar takeaway rotation, Fredi’s Pita at 9 Dublin Road serves Greek food including gyros, souvlaki and falafel, with online ordering. Its regular listed hours are 4–10.30pm Monday–Wednesday and noon–11pm Thursday–Sunday. That makes it a useful Little Bray option for the ordinary week; check the live ordering page for any bank-holiday change before making the trip.

🛍️ Shop Local
Amphibian King: a more considered shoe fit
Amphibian King at Unit 1, Raven Hall on Upper Dargle Road offers gait analysis as part of helping customers match running shoes to natural foot function. Its published regular hours are Monday–Saturday, 10am–6pm, and Sunday, 1–5pm. If the current runners have reached the stage where every pavement feels personal, it is a local specialist worth knowing about. Check directly about appointments and any fee before setting out.
💼 Local Opportunities
💼 A mostly-online start-up course begins Thursday
LEO Wicklow’s ten-week Start Your Own Business course begins Thursday 29 October, 7–10pm, with its first session at Clermont House in Rathnew; most of the programme is on Zoom.
It costs €50 and covers finance, marketing, tax, sales and business planning—the practical bits behind a good idea. It is open to County Wicklow companies, with booking closing 24 hours before the start. A regional and online opportunity for Bray businesses; check eligibility and places before booking.
💻 A useful front door for local businesses
Bray Chamber’s refreshed information hub brings together a member directory, events listing and online membership route, with accessibility features for easier use on mobile. For a resident looking for a local supplier—or a small business trying to find the town’s business network—it is a more practical first click than a generic search. The Chamber can be reached at [email protected] or 01 282 8248.

Monday 26 October · The Odyssey · Mermaid Arts Centre · 7pm
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is at Mermaid tonight at 7pm. The 172-minute, 15A cinema screening is €12 full price or €10 concession. It is the sort of bank-holiday plan that rewards arriving with snacks and no early escape route; check live availability before booking.
Monday 26 October · BOO! Halloween Harvest Weekend · Killruddery Walled Garden
It is the final day of BOO! at Killruddery’s Walled Garden, with pumpkin picking and purchase, traditional games, harvest displays and Bray Lions carving. The published October garden visit window is 9.30am–5pm, with last entry at 4pm; garden admission applies and pumpkins are extra. No advance booking is required, though it is sensible to check the estate’s live visitor information before heading over.

Thursday 29 October · Hardy Har Comedy Club · Harbour Bar · 9pm · free
Hardy Har marks 18 years with a free comedy night at the Harbour Bar on Thursday at 9pm. It is a straightforward, low-cost option when the group chat wants a plan without a full operation. Eighteen years is a respectable age for a comedy night—and more than enough time to perfect a heckle-free Thursday.
Friday 30 October · Autumn Seasonal Supper Club · Grain Store, Killruddery
Killruddery’s four-course Autumn Seasonal Supper Club has Friday seatings at 6.30pm, 7pm, 7.30pm and 8pm. It is €85 per person, with drinks extra and a 10% gratuity added to the final bill; online pre-booking is required. This is the one for a proper occasion rather than an improvised ‘shall we get something?’ at 8.17pm.
Saturday 31 October · Made in Wicklow opening · Mermaid Gallery · 2–4pm · free
The Made in Wicklow exhibition opening is a free drop-in at Mermaid Gallery on Saturday from 2–4pm. It is a showcase of the skill and imagination of Wicklow craft makers, making it a well-timed daytime browse before Halloween takes over the evening.
A regular programme worth knowing
🏊 Regular-programme pointer: adult beginner swimming
Shoreline Bray describes an eight-week adult beginner swimming programme on Wednesdays, 8.15–8.50pm, for people aged 16 and over. The €126 course starts with confidence, breathing, floating and basic movement in the shallow end—useful for anyone whose relationship with swimming is currently more spectator than participant. Check the next start date and places directly before enrolling.

🏓 Just Opened: padel at Shoreline Bray
Padel arrived at Shoreline Bray on Southern Cross Road on 5 October. It is played in doubles, which makes it an active option for four friends who have so far managed only to organise a very long message thread.
Court hire is €36 an hour off-peak or €52 peak. Split between four players, that is €9 or €13 each before racket hire. Book on 01 276 5660 and ask about the slot and equipment. It is an arrange-your-own activity, rather than a hosted event—and a useful new one for the local plans locker.
